Good Morning Everyone!
I just wanted to give everyone a reminder that the picture framing class will be picking back up upon the return of the students in July. The class will learning the basic processes of picture framing through lessons and mostly hands on work. We have lots of practice materials and will be working on various framing projects. With that I’d like to welcome staff to share with this class some things that you would like to have framed, reframed, repaired, or some other related need. This class has a lot of potential and I really look forward to starting it. If anyone has any questions or anything please feel free to contact me I would love to hear them. The Class is located in its previous location beside Teresa Wells GED room, across from the craft factory. Thank You very much! |

Program Changes and Updates |
|
The Vocational Services Unit will be experiencing many change in the near future. A great deal of thought and planning has gone into this process and we are very excited about these changes and the benefits they will bring to our staff and students.
Food Service-to coincide with the new Center food service arrangements, we well also make a change in out Food Service Training Program. Beginning July 9th, Phyllis Daniels will be the new food Service instructor. We will continue to train students in the area of Cook Helper and Dining Room Attendant, but we will also be upgrading this program to include areas that require higher skill level.
Retail Sales-Garnetta Wireman will teach that training program.
Custodial/Building Maintenance-this classroom will be moving to the GED classroom (located next to picture framing and food service). Troy will be incorporate Hotel/Motel training into his curriculum.
Esthetics-will be opening in early fall. This training area will prepare students to enter the field of skin care. They will learning techniques of beautifying the skin though a variety of means, including facials, skin analysis, makeup artistry, pore cleaning, facial treatments, spa treatments, aromatherapy, skin care regimens, depilation and waxing, etc. This training program requires 1,000 hours, will be taught 3-4 days per week and is under the Sate Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists for examination and licensing. The instructor for this program has been recommended but final approval has not been received.
Clerical-we are in the process of developing a training program for clerical services. Karen Branham will be the instructor for this program. In addition to her wonderful food service talents, which we have all enjoyed, she has a strong background in business and accounting. Stayed tuned for this program!
Offset Printing-due to the rapid changes and advancements in this industry, coupled with the budget restraints and the difficulty of keeping pace with this industry, we will be changing this training area to a WAP activity. Betta and her students will continue to perform printing duties for the Center as work activities. In the future, students interested in this field will be sent to the Mayo program.
Academic Achievement Program-the WAP team has developed a program to meet the needs of students who do not fit into the profile for WAP (they do not have work-related behavior issues). Students in this program will be involved in classes such as: reading, math, computer skills, social skills, study and research skills, community living, tutoring, etc. Mayo and PCC students will access this program on the days they do not attend classes for tutoring and to meet with the instructor concerning academic issues related to their off-center classes. Students who need 0-level college classes can access this program prior to entering college with the goal of eliminating the need for the 0-level classes. The targeted date for this program is August 15th. The classroom for this program will be located in Phyllis Daniels classroom located next to the Day Care Center. The instructor for this program has been recommended but final approval has not been received.

Center Updates Security Measures
|
|
The CDPVTC recently installed a new door lock system and adopted new procedures for visitation in order to help protect the safety of staff and students. The Center was requested to review and update its security procedures, including access to the building, based upon an assessment conducted by the Kentucky Community Preparedness Program.
The new system utilizes proximity cards to allow entrance to the facility. These cards are issued to new students upon their enrollment and to staff at the time of their employment. A scanner located next to exterior doors reads electronic codes from each card and allows entry to the building if the code is one currently listed as “active” in the computer system.
A paging system near the front entrance allows visitors to inform staff of their arrival. Staff then follows standardized procedures to determine if the visitor is to be admitted.
The code for each proximity card will be erased from the computer at the time its student user is discharged from the facility or if a staff member leaves employment. This will make the card inactive. Cards collected from departing staffand students can be reprogrammed and used again and again.
Visitors to CDPVTC are also required to leave photo identification such as a driver’s license with the front desk or dorm desk, as appropriate. The photo id is returned upon the conclusion of the visitor’s stay. Photo identification will allow the facility to determine who is in the building at any point of time and to account for visitors in the event of an emergency. |

Staff attended transition fairs in Hopkinsville, Maysville, Bowling Green, Prestonsburg, Richmond, and Somerset to name some of the cities visited. These Visits gave Center staff the opportunity to meet with many current OVR consumers and their families, schools officials, and community leaders to discuss services available through the agency and CDPVTC.
