PERSONS SERVED Adult Education services at the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center (CDPVTC) consist of Developmental Education GED Study and National External Diploma Program (NEDP). These Services are available to residents of CDPVTC. Also both GED Study and NEDP are available to day students that are non-residents. PROGRAM FEATURES The Developmental Education classes are designed to improve an individual’s ability to read, write and speak in English; computer; solve problems; and function effectively in the workplace, family and society. Those enrolled in Developmental Education classes have the opportunity to improve basic educational levels prior to seeking vocational training. Classes are based on individuals need and use a variety of instructional media. The GED Study is a General Education Development credential for adults who are not high school graduates. The GED tests measure the educational achievement of adults who are not high school graduates and compares their competency with that of high school graduates. the battery of tests involves some high-level thinking skills, including application, analysis, comprehension and evaluation. Language Arts-Reading, Language Arts-writing, Mathematics, science and Social Studies are studied. The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is a high school diploma program for mature adults who have acquired their academic skill through life and work experience. Through a series of take-home projects and oral performance interviews, the program will measure your academic and life skills including reading, writing, mathematics, oral communication and critical thinking. You will also demonstrate and increase your awareness of occupational, social, consumer, aesthetic, governmental and scientific issues by using data gathering skills, manipulating data, analyzing data, applying data and solving problems. The NEDP is a collaborative program with a local school system and the graduates are awarded a high school diploma. Because of its self-paced characteristics, the participants can establish some of the conditions of assessment. The average time a candidate takes to earn a diploma is six months. Tasks are simulations of practical experiences of adulthood such changing residences, applying for a job, demonstrating consumer awareness, solving personal and social problems and maintaining personal health. |
