Myranda Linger General Education Development (GED) |
|
Myranda Linger came to CDPVTC in October 23, 2006 for GED classes. She had been enrolled in GED classes at two separate facilities for approximately a year and a half before enrolling at CDPVTC. When Myranda first came to the center she was apprehensive about fitting in with the other students, and adjusting to the new environment.
In Myranda’s previous experience with GED classes, she reports that teachers gave her books, paper, and assignments, but she felt they didn’t offer enough assistance. Also, the students at the previous adult education centers were older, and Myranda felt much more comfortable with the students at the Center who are approximately her age. She believes that the one on one instruction she received from her GED instructor at the Center made the difference in achieving her goal. She reports that her instructor was never too busy to stop and help her with her work and always gave assistance as needed. Myranda felt comfortable asking questions and letting her instructor know when she needed help. Since each program is individualized, she was able to work at her own pace which she found extremely helpful.
Myranda received her GED on September 20, 2007. While attending GED classes, Myranda also completed the retail sales training program at CDPVTC. As she leaves the Center Myranda will be well prepared with her GED, vocational training, and the confidence that she can achieve a job in her field and live independently. Myranda reports, “If I had not come here I would still be working on my GED. I would like to say thanks to all the staff that helped me achieve my dream”. |
